Ceramic Molten Metal Level Sensors

Syalon 501 level sensorsInternational Syalons manufacture a range of silicon nitride and sialon advanced ceramic composite level sensors, which uniquely are electrically conducting, for use in the non-ferrous molten metal industry. These are used to monitor the level of the molten metal during die casting, for example.

Sialons are silicon nitride based advanced ceramics characterised by excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability. A composite grade of sialon, Syalon 501, has been developed which possesses a very low electrical resistivity (silicon nitride based ceramics are inherently electrical insulators) while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance and non–wetting behaviour in many non–ferrous molten metals.

Syalon 501 has been used widely in this application and is stable up to temperatures of 800°C in oxidising environments. As with all our molten metal handling products, Syalon 501 level sensors give excellent performance, service life and value for money.
